Our Loomes tags are woven on 100 year old german weaving machines, using certified organic cotton, by a small family owned and operated business. These guys have been making woven name tags for many multiple generations, using the same equipment in the same location and it feels wonderful to support such an authentic small business.
The organic cotton means they are soft and never scratchy. The name tags are hand sewn in with precision and care. This represents the care and love that has gone into the creation of each Loomes piece.
Its mimicking the act of sewing a name tag into your clothing so it will always find its way home to you. sewing a name tag into your clothing is something that has surely been lost but it represents a level of care and appreciation for that item of clothing. I always loved finding name tags in vintage finds because you can feel the love, its another counter culture symbol to the throw away society and fast fashion.
The slip dress that inspired the Loomes Slip collection had a name tag sewn in there and also her initials embroided onto the breast. I was so inspired by the care taken to make the dress completely by hand with such small perfect stitches. SO much patients and dedication. The time spent creating that beautiful dress had obviously filled the owner with such pride and appreciation she then attached her name to it and her initials.
